More investment in grass or artificial pitches for grassroots football?

In his spare time, company director Simon Ruddlesden also coaches youth football, and this project has reminded him of a long-term debate in grassroots football: undoubtedly, more pitches and investment in pitches are needed in grassroots football, but should these be grass or astroturf pitches?

Historically, he has favoured more grass pitches, but this week his U16s team was due to play on the very pitch that we were investigating, but the match was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch. Do we need to look any further for the right answer?
